Mutula appoints taskforce to improve returns for mango farmers
A new team is tasked with reducing fruit losses and strengthening the county’s mango trade.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. established a taskforce through Executive Order No. 2 of 2026 to recommend reforms to Makueni’s mango sector. Its brief centres on post-harvest losses, unstable producer prices and farmers’ dependence on brokers.
The team is expected to examine export readiness, quality standards, fruit aggregation and coordination across the supply chain. It will also consider how to sustain operations at the county’s mango processing plant, which supports value addition during the harvest season.
Mutula asked the taskforce to deliver recommendations and an implementation roadmap within three weeks. The recommendations are intended to provide a practical basis for improving the sector.
