Makueni’s fruit marketing authority prepared a cooperative purchasing programme ahead of the peak mango season, as part of the county administration’s work to improve agricultural earnings.

At a meeting chaired by Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, officials outlined a KSh 19-per-kilogram farm-gate buying price and a planned KSh 13.9 million purchasing budget for the financial year. Seven cooperatives were assigned sourcing zones to supply the Kalamba processing plant.

The county also described signed pricing schedules intended to make transactions more transparent. Officials reported engaging at least 60 casual workers during processing.
