Makueni mango juice puts local value addition in the spotlight
The county’s fruit processing work reaches a wider audience at the 2025 Devolution Conference.

Makueni’s ready-to-drink mango juice drew interest at the 2025 Devolution Conference, giving the county’s agricultural processing work a national showcase.
The county’s fruit development and marketing authority operates the processing plant in Kalamba, with the aim of reducing fruit losses and supporting producer prices. The exhibition introduced visitors and potential buyers to a product made through that local value chain.
In its report, the county said the authority served more than 12,000 farmers and had purchased over 7,000 metric tonnes of mangoes. It also reported 1,200 seasonal jobs annually for young people and women. These are county-reported programme figures, with the showcase linked to Mutula’s administration’s work on household incomes.
