Support for Wote traders as preparations begin for a modern market
Temporary trading spaces help businesses continue while a joint government market project advances.

More than 300 small traders began moving into temporary structures in Wote to make room for a planned KSh 350 million modern market. The project is a collaboration between the national government and Makueni County.
During a visit, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. thanked those supporting the relocation and emphasised continuity for local businesses. The county reported that he donated building materials for the temporary trading structures.
The proposed market includes improved stalls, sanitation, digital payment facilities and waste management. Traders welcomed the alternative spaces as they awaited the new facility.
